TAG HEUER CONNECTED

TAG Heuer has announced the completion of long-awaited developments. The Connected Watch, a luxury smartwatch designed to promote activity, now features an application usable while swimming, as well as a major update to the app developed from the very beginning for runners.

The  TAG Heuer-developed sports application has already offered multiple options for tracking and analyzing our activities. In addition to running, cycling, walking, and fitness, golf has also received a dedicated section and a separate mobile application. Now swimming has joined, responding to the requests of Connected Watch users who do not want to part with their timepiece in the pool. While the TAG Heuer luxury smartwatch is water-resistant up to 50 meters, it is not recommended for surfing, diving, or other extreme sports, as water pressure exceeding the water-resistance limit could affect the watch’s seals.

The watch can be safely used in lower-water, calm environments – such as swimming pools or indoor pools. Upon entering the water, the touchscreen detects the change in environment, and from that point on, navigation can be done using the pushers. The display still shows key information, such as the number of laps, total distance, and the intervals of training and rest. After swimming, our smartphone receives a more detailed analysis of burned calories, pace, swimming styles, and a summary of the entire workout.

The most revealing metric of our swimming performance is the SWOLF score. The term is derived from the English words "swimming" and "golf." In a pool of a specific length – 25 or 50 meters – the number of strokes is added to the time taken to complete one length. For example, if we swim 25 meters in 30 seconds with 15 strokes, our SWOLF score will be 45. Similar to golf scoring, a lower value indicates better performance.

Thanks to the built-in gyroscope and accelerometer, the algorithm can automatically detect the start and end of each lap, which is clearly displayed on the continuously illuminated screen along with the elapsed time and distance covered.

As additional information, the TAG Heuer app, which can be installed on our smartphone, is able to recognize and display the swimming style used during each segment – freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly.

The running option has always been available within TAG Heuer smartwatch’s proprietary menu system; however, a dedicated indoor running application has now been introduced, offering exciting new features.

The new version makes it immediately clear to the runner which heart rate zone they are currently in. After the run, the distance recorded on the treadmill can be entered into the watch, providing the calculated pace during the workout.

Depending on the goal of the training, different heart rate zones are desirable, which the smartwatch divides into five zones relative to our maximum heart rate, ranging from warm-up to race pace. The watch and smartphone display these zones on a color-coded chart.
