A decade-long partnership: TAG Heuer and the Monaco Grand Prix

There is a great deal of overlap between the worlds of motorsport and watchmaking, but the Monaco Grand Prix and TAG Heuer have particularly deep roots. This relationship has reached another milestone: TAG Heuer has become the first brand to become the title sponsor of the legendary Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix. The official name of the 2025 race will now be the Formula 1 TAG Heuer Grand Prix de Monaco.
This is the first time in the 100-year history of the Monaco Grand Prix that this has happened, and it would be hard to find a better brand than TAG Heuer to do so. The decades-long relationship between the brand and the Principality of Monaco is further strengthened by the bond between the brand and the premier class of motorsport.

This partnership has previously borne much fruit, despite the fact that Rolex has been the official timekeeper of Formula 1 until now. The TAG Heuer brand has always been the focus in Monaco, which was possible because, until this season, Monaco had privileges in terms of advertising and partner selection. This was reflected in the autonomy of the city-state in terms of sponsorship matters.

Before TAG Heuer became the official timekeeper of Formula 1 this year, Rolex filled that role, but despite this, TAG Heuer was the official timekeeper in Monaco, the most prestigious race on the racing calendar.

The brand not only shines as a sponsor in Monaco, but one of its most popular collections is also inspired by the city-state. The manufacturer often designs special editions for the Monaco Grand Prix, always in limited quantities. A favorite since the first collection was released, it is TAG Heuer's most prominent series.

The watch pictured above is a contemporary version of the original TAG Heuer watch. The most distinctive feature of the collection is the square stainless steel 39 mm case. Due to its square shape, it gives a larger and more distinct impression than its actual diameter. That is why it has become an iconic piece among watch enthusiasts.

At the heart of the watch is the automatic movement called Calibre 11. This movement has a 40-hour power reserve, making it a reliable companion in everyday life. Its robust appearance is not just an appearance, its square case, sapphire crystal glass, and 100-meter water resistance speak for themselves. Of course, the watch also boasts chronograph functions, which are served by two sub-dials: a chronograph minute counter, a chronograph hour counter, and a large seconds hand. The interesting thing about the dial is that the indexes are placed horizontally, which creates an unmistakable look with the iconic opaline blue and red color combination.

Similar to the original appearance, the modernized version differs in some details. The shade of blue used on the dial is brighter, but the red also carries the impulsive character of the modern world, breaking with the more restrained colors of the classic Monaco watch.

This watch comes in two versions, the one with the metal strap shown above, and the other with a leather strap. The structure of the two models also differs from the previously presented watch, which has the same appearance as the original edition. The soul of this watch is TAG Heuer's own developed movement, named Heuer 02.

Mika Häkkinen, Kimi Räikkönen and Lewis Hamilton have also competed with TAG Heuer watches on their wrists. All of these drivers have achieved victories or championship titles with TAG Heuer.
