Rado True Square Skeleton Matte Grey Plasma Cemented Version Dial
The Swiss watch brand boasts a history of over a century. Rado means wheel in Esperanto, referring to the gears found in mechanical watch movements and the cycle of time. The watchmaker strives to combine traditional timekeeping solutions with modern technology and innovative use of materials, which is also fitting for the manufacturer's nickname: master of materials.

The True Square Skeleton collection was born in the spirit of these principles, in three different designs. All three models are based on the Rado Calibre R808 automatic movement. The movement is equipped with a Nivachron™ hairspring, typical of the Swatch Group, which was developed by the Swatch Group and Audemars Piquet in 2018. It is made of titanium alloy, which makes it more resistant, shockproof, less expandable when exposed to heat and non-magnetizable.

Furthermore, the rounded-cornered, square 38-millimeter case of all three models is a monobloc construction, i.e. made from one piece. This method should be thought of similarly to when, due to structural factors, a single continuous carbon fiber monocoque forms the so-called survival cell in Formula 1 racing cars. Instead of a racing driver, in the case of the Rado True Square Skeleton collection, a functional ceramic case protects the movement with an 80-hour power reserve.

The case of the first model is made of matte, plasma-sprayed gray functional ceramic, while the back of the watch is made of sandblasted titanium. The dial is protected by a sapphire crystal glass with an anti-reflective coating. The dial can be divided into two main visual units, or spatial levels. The upper part is a black, rather cut-out, skeletonized level. In fact, Rado has left out the part of the dial that is unnecessary for telling the time. In contrast, the surface of the lower level, i.e. the bearing plate of the mechanical movement, shows the brushed surface treatment. The sandblasted indexes and hands, except for the seconds hand, are all treated with white Super-LumiNova®, making it easy to read the watch even at night. The watch buckle, like the case, is made of high-tech ceramic.

The matte black model uses the same case material, functional ceramic, but is treated with a matte black coating. The black PVD coating applied to the titanium case back and the sandblasted details lend a darker, more distinct character to this color combination.

The metal surface of the bearing plate is also drawn, and the watch buckle is also made of ceramic.

The third model, also matte black, takes a step further towards a more exciting look, as here we find a sporty, black rubber strap in addition to the classic matte black functional ceramic case. The watch back is also made of sandblasted titanium, but this version stands out from its siblings with its polished hands.

Rado True Square Skeleton matte black Côtes de Genève, or Geneva striped version dial
Another important difference and special feature is that the beautiful watch movement decorated with Côtes de Genève, or Geneva striped is visible under the dial.
